Privacy Policy.

Lapse is a domain and SSL monitoring tool. This page explains what we collect, why, and who we share it with.

This Privacy Policy explains how Newtons Tech LLC ("Newtons Tech," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use uselapse.com and the Lapse service (the "Service").

Information We Collect

Public lookups. Our free lookup tool accepts a domain name you submit and fetches public information about it (SSL certificate details, DNS records, WHOIS/RDAP registration data, mail authentication records, and public blacklist status). We use the submitted domain solely to perform that lookup. We do not require an account for lookups and we do not link lookups to identity. We may retain anonymous, aggregated counts of lookups for abuse prevention and capacity planning.

Account information. If you create an account, we collect and store your email address. We use passwordless magic-link authentication, so we never receive or store a password.

Monitoring configurations. When you add domains to monitor, we store the hostname, an optional label, and your alert cadence preferences. We also store the most recent SSL, registrar, and blacklist check results for each monitored domain, along with a record of which alerts have already been sent.

Payment information. If you subscribe to a paid plan, Stripe processes your payment on our behalf. We do not see or store your card details. We do store the Stripe customer ID associated with your account and the current subscription status and period, so we can determine entitlement.

Session cookies. We set one essential cookie, lapse_sid, to keep you signed in. No tracking or advertising cookies are set by the Service.

Server logs. Our web server records standard access logs, including IP address, user agent, and timestamp for every request. These logs are used exclusively for security monitoring, diagnostics, and mitigating abuse. We do not attempt to link IP addresses to individual identities. Logs are automatically rotated and deleted on a rolling basis.

Analytics

We use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool, to understand how visitors use uselapse.com. Umami collects anonymous usage data such as page views, referrers, browser type, device type, and approximate country of origin. Umami does not use cookies, does not track individuals across websites, and does not collect personal information. The data is aggregated and used solely to improve the site.

How We Use Information

• Perform the lookups and monitoring you request
• Send you alert emails when one of your monitored domains is approaching SSL or registration expiry, or has been blacklisted
• Authenticate you via email magic links and keep your session active
• Process subscription billing and entitlement through Stripe
• Operate, maintain, and improve the Service
• Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or security issues
• Comply with legal obligations
• In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred to the acquiring entity as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change via a prominent notice on the Service.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share it with third parties for marketing purposes. We do not use it for automated decision-making.

Third Parties and Subprocessors

The following service providers process data on our behalf:

• Linode (Akamai): Hosts the Service and its server infrastructure. Privacy Policy
• Cloudflare: Provides DNS resolution and may process request metadata. Privacy Policy
• Resend: Delivers transactional email (magic-link logins and alert notifications). Privacy Policy
• Stripe: Processes subscription payments. We share your email address with Stripe for billing. Privacy Policy
• Umami: Provides privacy-respecting analytics, self-hosted on our own infrastructure.

The Service also queries public, non-commercial data sources on your behalf when you run a lookup or when we check one of your monitored domains: public DNS resolvers, Certificate Transparency and certificate-issuing authorities, RDAP and WHOIS servers operated by domain registries, and public DNSBL operators. These queries transmit the domain you asked about, but not your identity.

Data Retention

We retain account information and monitoring configurations for as long as your account is active. If you delete a monitored domain, its record and alert history are removed immediately. If you close your account, we delete your account record and associated data within 30 days, except where a longer period is required for legal, tax, or accounting purposes. Server logs are rotated and deleted on a rolling 30-day basis.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to:

• Access a copy of the information we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate information
• Request deletion of your information
• Object to certain processing activities
• Export your monitoring configurations

Cookies

We set one essential cookie, lapse_sid, to maintain your authenticated session. No advertising or tracking cookies are set.

California Privacy Rights

We do not track users over time or across third-party websites, and therefore do not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) browser signals. We do not disclose personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.

International Visitors

If you are visiting from outside the United States, please be aware that your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, where our servers are located. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.

Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Material changes will be noted prominently.
